Excitement is Building Towards the 2026 US Open

Shinnecock Hills Golf Club in Southampton, Long Island, NY.

One of the founding members of the USGA, the Shinnecock Hills Golf Club has hosted nine USGA with this year’s US Open being the 10th championship, including six US Opens.  The Club has hosted a US Open in three different centuries.

As the author of the only biography of golf course architect William Flynn and a multi-decade involvement in the long-range restoration and master plan of the golf course, I have been in high demand for digital and print interviews.   Three of the articles are presented here for Society Members representing Met Golfer (Phil Carlucci), The Athletic (Gabby Herzig), and Golf Digest (Josh Sens).

If you have time, please also consider reading the Shinnecock chapter in The Nature Faker, for a greater appreciation for what I believe is the finest championship golf course in the world, yet enjoyable for all classes of golfers.  That is the highest compliment for a golf architect.  Flynn’s work at Shinnecock is the high-water mark of classic era golf architecture.  It takes extensive study to understand what makes Shinnecock so exceptional.  I hope the podcasts and written record helps clarify what makes Shinnecock great.

Enjoy the US Open on this landmark Flynn design.
Sincerest regards,
Wayne
